Board Honors Sunset Ridge PK-8 for Statewide Recognition

The Westminster Public Schools (WPS) Board of Education took a moment Tuesday night to celebrate the recognition of Sunset Ridge PK-8, which was recently named one of the Top 30 Elementary Schools in Colorado by “Money Inc.”.

Sunset Ridge landed at number 24 on the list. 

“Money Inc.,” a national website that covers topics ranging from education and travel to business and investment, praised Sunset Ridge and its implementation of a Competency Based System (CBS). 

Of Sunset Ridge PK-8, the publication wrote:

“The school values kindness, safety, respect, and responsibility, and fosters a positive, supportive environment for both academic and personal growth.”

The article went on to highlight that Sunset Ridge, “offers strong teacher support and community partnerships to help all learners succeed.”

On Monday, Superintendent Jeni Gotto and longtime former principal Roger Vadeen, now serving as a Director of Schools, joined current principal Lupita Arce to share the exciting news and celebrate with students and staff, complete with a special treat.

During the Board of Education meeting, Principal Arce, Vadeen and longtime teacher Molly Brown addressed the board, sharing with members why they think Sunset Ridge is such a special place. Brown has taught in the district for 27 years, most of them at Sunset Ridge.
